Last week, the Batting Buyers Guide looked at spring training questions for clubs from Arizona to Miami. This week, our poetic odyssey starts in Milwaukee, and takes us to Washington.

MIL: Brewer watchers look and say/Can Gamel handle full-time play? Going into camp, the leading candidate to replace departed 1B Prince Fielder looked like 26-year-old Mat Gamel, who has 194 PA in four big-league seasons, with a .684 OPS to show in that small sample. Almost all that PT came in 2009, when he was actually around league average, with a .760 OPS in 61 games and a nice 12% walk rate, but had a woeful 66% ct% that pulled his Eye down to 0.33. His .242 BA that year would have been even lower, but he had a 37% hit rate. He is a career...
