The draft is only four days away. Right now, decision makers are busy extracting data, holding private workouts, and interviewing their area scouts about the makeup and character of players before making their organization’s draft board. Unlike the NFL draft, the MLB draft isn’t about best player available or specific team needs. Instead, the draft is more about relationships, projection, how a player’s skillset fits into a team’s player development model, and how the money works. A guy who is undraftable for one team because of money allocation concerns, may be available to a team 10 picks later who will make the money work.
