As the 2024 minor league season turns toward the finish line, it's officially not too early to start speculating on 2025 breakouts. One of the best ways to do this (especially early on) is to pay attention to second half promotions. Where a team sends a prospect to play is no arbitrary matter. Minor league assignments are a pretty solid indicator of how high a team is on one of their players, or at least the level of competition they think a prospect can handle. Generally, the better the prospect, the more advanced the assignment they are given, and prospects tend to receive promotions only when their organization feels they've truly earned it.
