In 2016, Jay Groome and Riley Pint were ranked 1-2 on most media draft boards leading up to the draft. Neither prospect were picked that high. Pint was snatched up by Colorado at #4 overall after Mickey Moniak, Nick Senzel (scouting report) and Ian Anderson (scouting report) were off the board. Groome waited until the 12th pick overall, when the Red Sox snatched him up. Both organization were praised for drafting a quality prospect at a value price. Some didn't think the Red Sox had the money to sign Groome, who was expected to command a $7 million signing bonus. The Red Sox's entire spending budget was just under $8 million for the first 10 rounds of the draft. They signed Groome for $3.65 million, slightly over slot. Meanwhile, the...
