MINORS: Evaluating hot debuts—Ian Anderson & Sixto Sánchez

This strange, short season has brought on a bunch of top prospects in a fury. These call-ups have been integral pieces for clubs during the pennant race and on fantasy rosters as managers jockey for league championships. This is new to me. Since usually I am intensely focused on minor league coverage, I don’t get to see prospects, in real-time, navigate life in the big leagues as rookies. It has been fun—outside of reading the instant analysis from others on social media.

I don’t blame people going overboard about a rookie excelling (or struggling) when they come up for the first time. Recency bias is a very real thing in evaluation. Sometimes I am conscious of it, other times, I’m not. Today, let’s take a look at some rookie performers...
