MINORS: Early season breakouts

Last week, Jeremy Deloney took a look at some statistical league leaders in the low minors. This week, we shift our attention to the upper minors (Double-A and Triple-A) and take a look at some early season breakouts. For the most part, these breakouts prospects are not on the verge of being called-up (for those, see our weekly Sunday WatchList column), but have done enough to warrant a reconsideration of their long-term potential.

No prospect—other than perhaps the Pirates Gregory Polanco—has been more impressive this spring than the Boston Red Sox second baseman Mookie Betts. Since the middle of 2013 Betts has hit .365 with 22 doubles, 12 HR, and 34 SB in just 307 AB. In 29 games for Double-A Portland, the 21-year-old Betts is hitting...
