This is the hardest prospect list we’ve ever put together. The midseason Top 50 should, theoretically, be easier to compile than our off-season HQ100. This year, because of several prominent promotions, loads of underperforming or injured prospects, and a crumbling prospect pool, fueled by a short 2020 draft and a weak 2021 draft, it was hard to gather a consensus on our ranking. We ranked out to our Top 55. Only 20 prospects appeared on all 7 writer ballots. 89 prospects split the other 35 slots in our individual rankings total. That is a whopping variance of prospect opinions. We knew this would be an issue given the differing opinions on several prospects this year.
