MINORS: 2012 Top Shortstop Prospects

This week we continue our review of the top prospects in baseball with an overview of the shortstop position.  Unlike the other positions we have reviewed (C, 1B, and 2B), shortstop is loaded.  At the top of the list are two dynamic and athletic players: Jurickson Profar (TEX) and Manny Machado (BAL).  Both Profar and Machado are 5-tool talents who can do almost anything on a ball field.  Profar comes in at #6 on out Top 100 prospects list, while Machado is #7.  In all, 8 of the 15 shortstops listed here are Top 100 prospects.

There is no better illustration of the overall depth of the position than the fact that our 15th best SS prospect, Tyler Pastornicky (ATL), is projected to earn $18 in a typical 13-team NL only format in 2012....
