The 2012 first year player draft will begin on June 4th and will likely vary from previous drafts for several important reasons. The 2011 draft was a historically deep draft, with solid college and high school position players, and a deep class of high-upside pitching prospects. The 2012 draft class is weaker at many positions, with a particularly scarcity of impact college position players.
This lack of depth won’t be that noticeable in round one, as there are plenty of legitimate impact prospects, but the field of high upside players fades quickly outside the 1st round.
