RESEARCH: Impact of a deadened baseball

Introduction

Earlier this week, Eno Sarris and Ken Rosenthal revealed that MLB is planning to change the baseball to reduce home runs (subscription required and recommended for the linked article). Their stated goal is to reduce dingers by 5% by reducing the coefficient of restitution (bounciness) and reducing the weight of the baseball. We’re here to discuss what impact that might have on the fantasy landscape.

Methodology

To get anywhere with this study, we put aside both skepticism and cynicism regarding MLB’s ability to finely control the specifics of the baseball.
