With stolen bases being harder and harder to come by, every single one can make a difference in the standings. The problem with targeting most stolen base threats is that on average, they’re bad hitters. In 2019 Mallex Smith led the league with 46 steals but with just a .635 OPS. Adalberto Mondesi was second with 43 bases but a .715 OPS. These stolen base threats provide little fantasy value besides the stolen bases. It would be helpful to know in which games to place these hitters in our lineups to maximize potential stolen base attempts. One key is to examine how slow the pitcher delivers the ball to the plate since they are the pitchers who base runners attack.
