With the change to an unbalanced schedule just over a decade ago, MLB introduced a system where teams face divisional rivals for a greater number of games than teams outside the division. Teams in every division except the AL West face each other over 70 times each during the regular season. This stands in sharp contrast to the typical 32-36 games that each team plays against teams from the other divisions within their league. From a fantasy perspective, this suggests the existence of a schedule factor that could have an impact on player performance over the course of a season—another high-level metric that could be used to positively affect draft strategy.
