While a few MLB teams made news in the offseason by reconfiguring their rosters, a couple of teams made bigger news for their fans by making adjustments to something else—their ballparks.
Both the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners announced shortly after the 2012 season ended that they would be overhauling their parks, moving fences in to make their yards a little—or a lot—more hitter-friendly.
Of course the best-laid plans in these areas don’t always pan out as expected, and we’ll have to wait a few seasons to see exactly how the park changes play.
But for now, the changes in ballpark configuration at PETCO Park in SD and Safeco Field in SEA mean we should adjust our 2013 expectations for both pitchers and hitters of those...
