Platoon splits are a key part of the in-game management of virtually every baseball game played at the big league level, yet from a fantasy perspective we do not spend much time on it. There are good reasons for that. For one, as The Book: Playing the Percentages in Baseball (Tom Tango, Mitchel Lichtman and Andrew Dolphin) says, "The good hitter with an average platoon split is generally better than an average hitter with an unusually large platoon split." In short, we usually just want the better hitter. A second reason is the year-to-year variability which can produce extreme swings (due in part to the smaller sample size).
