This is the fourth in a series of articles that will help you incorporate Statcast metrics into the toolbox we use at BaseballHQ.com.
We first looked at the correlation between average exit velocity and the stats and skills we use in our toolbox at BaseballHQ.com. We did this for both hitters and pitchers.
We also took a first look at the barrel rate (barrel %) allowed by starting pitchers.
Next, let's look at the barrel rate of hitters to see how it might correlate with batting average, production, plate discipline, and some of the skills-based metrics we use for hitters at BaseballHQ.com.
Our method will be to identify the BaseballHQ.com stats and metrics that have at least a moderate correlation (r 0.30) to barrel rate.
