Lyles to stick in rotation
After another successful PQS-DOM start on Tuesday, Jordan Lyles (RHP, HOU) will remain the Astros rotation for time being, the club announced. Lyles had a spot start in April (also a PQS-DOM) and had sprinted out to a 5-0, 3.49 ERA start with a 4.0 Cmd in Triple-A before his May 15 callup.
Lyles made 15 stars for Houston in 2011, pitching to a 2-8 record with a 5.36 ERA. However, his 2.6 Cmd, 67 BPV and 4.05 xERA indicated some hidden value. In 2012, Triple-A pitching coach Burt Hooton tweaked some of Lyles' mechanics, resulting in increased pitch velocity and movement.
