RELIEVERS: Closers with long term risk

This week, this column looks at some of the closers at risk. Sure, we could talk about Carlos Marmol (RHP, CHC) who has already lost his job again. And we could talk about Phil Coke (LHP, DET) who seems to have lost his. Both have weak projected BPIs. 

There has been plenty of carnage across closers the first week—mostly from closers who are projected to have tremendous skills. But it is just one week; plenty of staff aces have been shellacked too. Now is not the time to panic. Instead, now is the time to take a longer view and focus on the closers (not covered last week) who have (1) a BPV below 80 and (2) a potential Plan B options with a stronger skill set who could take over if the incumbent falters, as we (and the odds) would...
