Besides the obvious caveats of tiny sample sizes and early season relievers still honing their command, this column examines early ERA and xERA in the context of the projections to see if there are reasons for concern, or relievers who might take a step forward, or at least cause us to want to look deeper into what's going on.
There are five sample groupings for this purpose. This first grouping has terrible actual ERA in a tiny sample size but an xERA more in line with projections, so don't panic:
SV | HD | IP | ERA | xERA | pSV | pHld | pERA | pxERA | |
Murfee, Penn CHW | 0 | 2 | 6.0 | 10.50 | 3.71 | 0 | 8 | 3.71 | 3.70 |
Garabito, Gerson TEX | 0 | 1 | 8.0 | 9.00 | 3.49 | 0 | 0 | 3.92 | 3.95 |
Jax, Griffin MIN | 0 | 4 | 7.0 | 7.04 | 3.25 | 5 | 20 | 3.00 | 2.76 |
Diaz, Edwin NYM | 3 | 0 | 6.0 | 6.75 | 3.72 | 28 | 0 | 2.95 | 2.55 |
