(Follow this link for an introduction and overview of this series.)

Date and venue: July 1, 2019 at Rogers Centre, Toronto
Pitching matchup: RHP Glenn Sparkman (2-4, 5.09 ERA) vs. LHP Clayton Richard (1-4, 6.51 ERA)
Setup and context: The Royals were limping to the All-Star Break (still a week away) with a 29-56 record. The Blue Jays were only maringally better at 32-53, but the with the young position players in place (Vlad Guerrero, Jr., Cavan Biggio, Lourdes Gurriel, Teoscar Hernández, etc), things seemed to be on the upswing as they made short work of Sparkman and shot out to an 8-0 lead after three innings, and coasted to an 11-4 victory from there.
