Rich Thompson (OF, TAM)
The Rays acquired the 33-year-old from the Phillies and immediately recalled him to the majors. Thompson is now in his sixth organization and his only appearance in the big leagues was in ’04 with the Royals when he had one AB. The left-handed hitter has nearly 5,000 minor league at bats to his credit—almost 3,000 in Triple-A—and he’s known mostly for his speed and defense. Thompson won’t provide much offensive pop—his career high in HR is 5—but he works counts and gets on base. His plus speed has allowed him to steal 442 bases in his minor league career with a high of 58 in ’05. He also had 48 SB in ’11.
