Matt Dominguez (3B, HOU)
The Astros acquired the 23-year-old from Miami on July 4 and immediately placed him in the majors. Dominguez, a first round pick of the Marlins in ’07, hit .244 in 45 AB with Miami in ’11. He has struggled to find any consistency with his offense since signing and is only a career .252/.321/.410 hitter with a high of 18 HR in the minors. The right-handed hitter makes good contact with a fairly patient approach, but he often swings passively at pitches and doesn’t drive them with authority. He projects to average power, but he’ll need to make some changes to his stroke. Dominguez lacks the barrel awareness to hit for BA, but his ability to make contact won’t make him a liability.
