The Royals called up Gallagher to take the roster spot created when All-Star backstop Salvador Perez hit the DL with right intercostal strain. The 24-year-old Gallagher has developed into the best defensive catcher in an otherwise thin farm system and is in the midst of the best offensive season of his career, hitting .294 with 12 doubles and 5 home runs at Triple-A Omaha.
