With Kevin Youkilis landing on the disabled list, the Red Sox promoted their top prospect to the majors and immediately inserted him into the starting lineup. Middlebrooks, 23, is a tall and strong infielder who posted career-highs in BA and HR in ’11. He has a solid all-around game and has the ability to impact the game with his bat and glove. Middlebrooks displays quickness, a very strong arm, and fundamental glovework at 3B and has enough agility to be an asset. He is a natural hitter with power to all fields, though his swing can get long which results in strikeouts.
