GM's OFFICE: Lessons from the 2019 Cheater's Bookmark

In the course of producing the Baseball Forecaster each fall, one of the first pages we finalize is actually the last page of the book. Longtime readers will recognize the Cheater's Bookmark pictured above, a quick-reference card that helps (re-)set baseline levels for many of the metrics we use throughout the book.

It's always among the first pages we finish, just because it's so essential that we get that cheat sheet into the hands of our writers as soon as possible. As they are working through the player commentaries, they need to know that (for instance) the league-wide swinging-strike rate for pitchers (SwK%) now averages more than 11%. Here's this year's version:
