Dr. HQ: Aroldis Chapman suffers serious head injury

Aroldis Chapman (LHP, CIN)
Injury: Mild concussion, several fractures to facial bones
Spring Training Outlook: He’ll have a plate inserted in the bone just above his left eye. He is out of action for roughly six to eight weeks.
2014 Impact: The timeframe is the physical recovery. On the mental side, it could be a lot longer; just ask Brandon McCarthy. McCarthy suffered a serious concussion and skull fracture in 2012. Chapman might not return until late June or just before the break due to the mental hurdles, that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
