With the advent of the 10-day DL, the number of players placed on the DL exploded in 2017. The increase from 2016 was due entirely to players who sat out for the minimum 10 days, but that doesn't mean that there weren't some serious injuries, too. We'll cover some 2017 injuries here that may continue to impact players into 2018.
We're going to skip players who had Tommy John surgery. The recovery parameters from TJS are very well known, so unless a player is deviating from the standard timeline, there's not much to talk about. As a reminder, pitchers usually return to action 12-15 months following the surgery and are usually fully recovered 18 months following the surgery.
