With the Padres soon set to begin the regular season, there remain some interesting questions as to how things will shape up behind the plate.

The primary catcher seems to be locked in, with Austin Hedges (C, SD) and his defensive prowess ready to again handle the primary duties. Hedges got off to a rough start last season and then lost time with an elbow issue, but returned in June to slash a very respectable .255/.303/.491 with 12 HR in the second half. He has continued swinging a solid bat this spring, with 7 hits (3 HR) in his first 28 at-bats.

Perhaps the more interesting question for fantasy owners revolves around the team’s plan for Francisco Mejía (C, SD). Mejia projects as an offensive asset, and really...
