Despite missing out on the playoffs for a second straight year, the Giants have to be pleased with the contribution they have received from a few of their younger hurlers this season.
Dereck Rodríguez (RHP, SF), a converted outfielder who’d never pitched above Double-A prior to this season, has made 17 starts since being thrust into the Giants rotation, posting a 2.30 ERA, 7.1 Dom, and 2.4 Ctl in the process. His 4.24 xERA indicates some good fortune to go along with that shiny ERA, but he has certainly handled the transition well and shown he can pitch at the major league level.
