The Dodgers made a luxury addition at the trade deadline by buying Joey Gallo (OF, LA) low from the Yankees. He’s immediately stepped into a large-side platoon role in Los Angeles, first bumping James Outman (OF, LA) off the active roster and Trayce Thompson (OF, LA) into a purely bench role. Unsurprisingly, a move to Los Angeles hasn’t magically improved Gallo’s ability to make contact, as he has struck out four times in his first seven plate appearances with his new club. That’s far too small a sample to conclude he’ll fail with the Dodgers, but it’s unclear how much of an opportunity the Dodgers are willing to give him.
