The Braves entered spring training looking to find a fifth starter, but the injury to Mike Minor (LHP, ATL) left them with two vacancies in the starting rotation. Eric Stults (LHP, ATL) and Wandy Rodriguez (LHP, FA) were the leading candidates heading down the stretch, but as we suggested last month, the Braves decided to cut ties with Rodriguez on April 3. That decision was most likely based on concerns that the 36-year-old wouldn’t be able to hold up over the long haul and that he would automatically receive a guaranteed $2 million simply by making the Opening Day roster. Instead, the team acquired Trevor Cahill (RHP, ATL) from the Diamondbacks in an April 2 trade.
