Manager Fredi Gonzalez hasn’t officially declared a winner in the battle for second base, but all signs are pointing toward Jace Peterson (2B/SS/3B, ATL). The 25-year-old has had a terrific spring, vastly outplaying his competition.

Alberto Callaspo (2B/3B, ATL) was signed in the offseason to provide depth and a potentially serve as a stopgap at second base until either Peterson or top prospect José Peraza (2B, ATL) were ready to assume the role. Team officials were reportedly disappointed that Callaspo didn’t show up at camp in better shape after assuring them he would work with a personal trainer over the winter.
