Back in February, manager Bryan Price indicated he hoped to rely more on multiple inning appearances from the back-end of his bullpen. Just over two weeks out from Opening Day, it appears Price has stuck to his word and will use a committee to fill the closer role to start the year. The overall tendency of managers to stray from a closer-by-committee approach in the modern era and fall into more defined usage patterns cannot be ignored, but the Reds have a back-end relief corps that seems well-suited for this atypical approach.
