The loss of James Paxton to Tommy John surgery has been the worst among several early-season injuries, but a rebuilding club continues to overachieve at 6-5 through its first 11 games. At least for now, this has made it easier for GM Jerry Dipoto to insist that Paxton's loss won't change their plans and timelines for the development of prospects currently at the alternate site and likely headed for Double-A and Triple-A when minor league play begins in May. The imminent weekend return of CF Kyle Lewis (OF, SEA)—who has missed all of 2021 thus far with a knee injury—provides more fuel for Dipoto and SEA fan optimism.
