When the Orioles come to spring training in 2018, their mix at three positions—catcher, shortstop and right field—may look a bit different than it does currently.

With top prospect Chance Sisco (C, BAL) now in the majors as a September call-up and on the cusp of establishing himself as a major-league regular (or so the team hopes), the Orioles may bid a fond farewell to Welington Castillo (C, BAL), despite Castillo’s strong performance at the plate. Castillo could decline his player option and seek a longer-term deal or at least more than the $7 million he would be paid under that option.
