While he insists the broken toe that derailed a strong start to the season is no longer an issue, Mitch Moreland (1B, BOS) continues to struggle, slashing .156/.231/.260 since June 17. Moreland’s struggles have gotten to the point where the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier recently speculated that the Red Sox might try to acquire an available first baseman, like Lucas Duda (1B, NYM) or Yonder Alonso (1B, OAK), at the trade deadline.

Another way the Red Sox could solve the problem, Speier notes, would be to return Hanley Ramírez (DH, BOS) to first base, and they in fact gave him a couple of starts at the position this past week.
