Red Sox manager Alex Cora recently offered some candid thoughts on how he’ll construct the team’s lineup this season, which have played out in interesting ways in the team’s initial spring games.

The one thing that seems set in stone is that Rafael Devers (3B, BOS) will hit second to maximize his plate appearances while also maintaining his RBI opportunities.

Cora then called a “main goal” separating Devers from Masataka Yoshida (OF, BOS), which would seem to rule Yoshida out of consideration to lead off — where many assumed he might hit after he proved to be an on-base machine in Japan.
