Mired in a 6-for-45 slump in June, Justin Smoak (1B, TOR) was given the day off June 17. Smoak has been unable to sustain the contact rate that helped fuel his breakout season in 2017, though there is no indication those days off will become more frequent. Indeed, the Jays hold a reasonable, $6 million option on his services for 2019, so he is likely part of the team’s 2019 plans, something that cannot be said for many on Toronto’s roster.
