To be sure, at least part of the motivation for the Blue Jays’ acquisition of Raimel Tapia (OF, TOR) was to diversify what had been an all-right-handed outfield group in Toronto.
But it seems like the move may have been every bit as much about freeing up at-bats at designated hitter.
While it is certainly possible that the ever-aggressive Jays are not done adding this off-season, at least for now, the primary beneficiary figures to be Alejandro Kirk (C, TOR).
Kirk, who rocketed straight from Single-A to Toronto in 2020 on the strength of his bat, is already tearing the cover off the ball this spring (5-for-11, HR, 2B).
