A recent injury to Aaron Hicks (OF, NYY) may have helped the Yankees stumble into an answer to a question that has only become more pressing as the season has gone on: How do we get Matt Carpenter (DH, NYY) some more at-bats?

While Hicks has been dealing with the after-effects of fouling a ball off his shin in a July 12 game, Carpenter has again been splitting time between DH and a corner outfield spot, much as he did when Anthony Rizzo (1B, NYY) was nursing lower back stiffness recently.

Hicks did enter New York’s July 15 game as a pinch hitter, so he seems to be on the cusp of resuming his regular gig in the New York outfield.
