With all due respect to the elevation of Aaron Hicks (OF, NYY) to the leadoff spot — a potential boon to his counting stats if it sticks, to be sure — the biggest storyline in New York from a fantasy perspective is, “What’s wrong with Gerrit Cole (RHP, NYY), and can it be fixed?”

After yielding 3 ER and failing to log a quality start in either of his first two outings, things really came off the rails in Cole’s third start April 19.

The first inning was harmless enough. Cole struck out the first two batters he faced and then, after a two-out walk, struck out the fourth batter as well.
