It may be a bridge too far to suggest that if the signing of Masataka Yoshida (OF, BOS) proves to be an overlay bordering on malpractice — as unnamed front office rivals continue to suggest to reporters — it could be the beginning of the end for Boston chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom.

Nonetheless, the Red Sox have plenty riding on whether the two-time Pacific League batting champ’s skills transfer to the major leagues.

While the team may be most interested in Yoshida’s on-base percentage — consistently north of .400 throughout his Japanese career — fantasy managers are probably more curious as to whether Yoshida will be any sort of power contributor after topping out at 21 HR in 110 and 119 games the past two seasons,...
