PT TOMORROW: AL Central—Santana nearing return to the majors

Ervin Santana (RHP, MIN) continued his road to recovery from February surgery on his right middle finger by making another rehab start on Sunday, July 15th, this one his first in Triple-A. He threw 86 pitchers over 5.2 IP while allowing three runs on four hits (including two homers) and one walk and striking out seven. Since restarting his rehab assignment after a setback in late May, Santana has made four starts, compiling a 4.24 ERA with one walk to 17 strikeouts in 17 IP. In this latest outing, he reportedly hit 91 mph with his fastball, which is the first time he's topped 90 during his rehab assignment, but still short of the 92.9 mph he averaged in 2017.
