PT TOMORROW: AL Central—Sale’s injury creates opportunity

Chris Sale (LHP, CHW) will be unable to make his Opening Day start, but should miss only 2-3 starts, due of an avulsion fracture in his right foot. Sale’s injury opens the door for several pitchers vying to make the White Sox roster. Carlos Rodón (LHP, CHW) will be the immediate beneficiary, as he will make a start during the first week of spring training games. If Rodon pitches well as a starter this spring, he will likely make the team with Sale out. Rodon was profiled in this column last week.  

Scott Carroll (RHP, CHW) and Brad Penny (RHP, CHW) will compete with Rodon to fill the opening in the rotation. The soft-tossing Carroll started 26 games for the Sox last year with mediocre results (4.80 ERA/1.48 WHIP/4.5...
