NL West: Early takeaways from trade deadline

The Padres acquisitions of LHP Tanner Scott and RHP Jason Adam arguably give them the best back end of the bullpen in the league. With the 4thand 5th spots in their starting rotation having been mediocre all season due to injuries and poor performance, the bullpen should be a position of strength as the Padres look to hold off the Diamondbacks, Cardinals and Pirates for the final wildcard spot.

As a lefty, Scott will be a great complement to closer RHP Robert Suarez, who has been dominant (1.48 ERA, 0.84, 21% K-BB% and 23 Sv in 26 opportunities) in his first season as a full-time closer. Despite a 15% BB%, Scott has been dominant in his own right (1.18 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 13% K-BB% and 18 Sv in 20 opportunities). The Padres...
