As pitchers and catchers report in a couple of weeks, the Rangers are still in search of a lockdown closer. The Rangers recently signed Chris Martin, who has been effective in the backend of the bullpen in his career but has not been a full-time closer. Martin is now the front-runner for the closing role, but other options exist.
Many thought Kirby Yates could return to the Rangers, but that did not happen as Yates signed with the Dodgers. There are still some closers on the free agent market, such as Kenley Jansen, Carlos Estévez, Kyle Finnegan, and others. All would be an upgrade over Martin and could still be in play.
