Tigers | Miguel Cabrera should return Tuesday
Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (groin) is on track to be activated from the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, May 2, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Source: MLB.com - Jason Beck
BHQ take: It is unclear whether John Hicks, Cabrera's primary replacement, will remain with DET or return to Triple-A. Hicks has swung a hot stick, going 11-for-26 with a HR, in Cabrera's absence. Cabrera was heating up at the time of his injury, going 12-for-28 with three HR in the previous eight games before his DL stint. He remains among the game's most productive hitters when healthy. —Tom Kephart

Tigers | Joe Jiménez sent down
Detroit Tigers RP Joe Jiménez was sent down to Class AAA Toledo on Sunday, April 30. Source: CBSSports.com
BHQ take: DET swapped Jimenez for LHP Chad Bell, changing the DET bullpen's LH/RH balance. Jimenez has shuttled between DET and Triple-A, and might continue to do so until he shows solid Ctl to complement his impressive Dom. Bell is likely to see lower-leverage work initially. He is previewed in the Daily Call-Ups column. —Tom Kephart

Angels | Tyler Skaggs out for a while
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim LHP Tyler Skaggs (oblique) has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 oblique strain and is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks. Source: Los Angeles Times - Pedro Moura
BHQ take: The one constant we’ve learned to expect from the LAA pitching staff early on is injuries—but on top of Garrett Richards’ unresolved issues, this hit to the rotation hurts. At first blush, it sounds like Skaggs will miss at least half of the remaining season, which puts more pressure on sudden revelation J.C. Ramirez to continue to make good as a starter. It also suggests that both Daniel Wright and Alex Meyer will get more May opportunities in a No. 5 spot that is unsettled, to say the least. Neither of these names can be recommended without serious reservation until further notice—and we have little doubt that these immediate projection updates coming on the heels of the Skaggs injury will change at least a couple of times in May, particularly if other rotation options reveal themselves. To be continued. —Jock Thompson

Blue Jays | Aaron Sanchez placed on DL
Toronto Blue Jays RHP Aaron Sanchez (nail) was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a split nail Monday, May 1. Source: MLBRosterMoves
BHQ take: As the world of the TOR rotation turns: The good news for Sanchez and his owners is that he avoided the blisters on the right middle finger in his most recent start, and once the nail heals, he can resume throwing. The first hope is that he will be ready for a rehab start on May 6, setting him up for a return to the active roster on May 11. The second hope is that J.A.Happ (elbow inflammation) will be ready for a start on May 9, which is the next rotation turn that is currently unfilled on the current TOR roster. In the meantime, Daniel Barnes was recalled to provide bullpen depth, and Mat Latos will continue in the rotation. Latos has a PQS-2 and a PQS-0 thus far in his two starts, and with five strikeouts and seven walks in 11 innings, he does not come recommended. —Matt Dodge

Astros | Houston makes two roster moves
Houston Astros OF Jake Marisnick (concussion) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Monday, May 1, while INF Tony Kemp was optioned to Class AAA Fresno. Source: MLBRosterMoves
BHQ take: Nothing to see here from a playing time adjustment or fantasy perspective. Marisnick returns to his defensive CF role, where he has picked up all of 21 AB to date. Kemp was 0-for-3 in his brief time with HOU. —Jock Thompson

Orioles | Zach Britton could return soon
Baltimore Orioles RHP Zach Britton (forearm) is expected to be activated from the 10-day disabled list Saturday, April 29, or Tuesday, May 2. Source: MASNSports.com - Roch Kubatko
BHQ take: Britton had a successful rehab outing on Sunday, April 30 (one inning, 11 pitches, one strikeout, one hit), so he will be activated on May 2, pushing Brad Brach back to his setup role. Corresponding move is not yet announced as of this writing, pending BAL bullpen usage during their May 1 game. No playing time adjustments needed, but Britton owners should quickly get him back in their lineups with confidence. —Matt Dodge

Mets | Noah Syndergaard headed to DL
New York Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard (lat) had an MRI Monday, May 1, which revealed a partially torn lat muscle in his right shoulder, and he'll be placed on the 10-day disabled list. There is no timetable for his return. Source: MLB.com
BHQ take: The Mets are not reporting how much time Syndergaard will miss, but pitchers (including the Mets' own Steven Matz) with similar injuries have missed upwards of two months, which would suggest a return around the All-Star break. All signs point to Rafael Montero as the pitcher who will get the first chance to replace Syndergaard in the Met rotation. Montero had an excellent spring that had some suggesting he was among those in line to start when other Met starters were unavailable, but then he had a poor start to 2017, while pitching out of the bullpen, that led to a demotion to Triple-A Las Vegas. At Vegas, Montero has appeared twice and pitched well. Over 10.1 innings, he's yielded only two earned runs and two walks while striking out 16. If you're thinking about Seth Lugo and/or Matz, check back in a couple of weeks and we may have a better idea if and when they will become available. —Phil Hertz

Mets | Lucas Duda not expected back when eligible
New York Mets 1B Lucas Duda (elbow) did not play in a rehab game Saturday, April 29, and manager Terry Collins said he not expect Duda to be activated from the 10-day disabled list when he is eligible Monday, May 1. Source: The Associated Press
BHQ take: The Mets had hoped that Duda would be able to return to the lineup at the beginning of May. Not only is that not going to happen, but now there is no clear timetable for his return. The Mets used T.J. Rivera over the weekend at first, but Wilmer Flores appears close to a return from his DL stint. Once that happens, expect him to get the bulk of the starts at first, at least until Duda returns. While Flores is off to a slow start in 2018, he had a .278 xBA and a 108 PX in 2016, numbers that would help many fantasy owners. One other name to file away in connection with the Mets' first base job is Dominic Smith, the Mets' No. 3 prospect, according to BaseballHQ.com. Smith is currently hitting .337 at Triple-A Las Vegas with an .867 OPS. —Phil Hertz

Dodgers | Hyun-Jin Ryu on disabled list
Los Angeles Dodgers LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (hip) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday, May 1, because of a left hip contusion. The team also recalled RHP Josh Fields from Class AAA Oklahoma City. Source: MLBRosterMoves
BHQ take: Another day, another LA pitching change, and Josh Fields takes the shuttle to the MLB club—his third of the early season. Early word out of LA is that the Dodgers (with an off-day) hope that Ryu will only miss one start, suggesting this is a minor injury and his shelving is more of a 10-day DL thing. No playing time adjustment for either name. —Jock Thompson

Pirates | Two roster moves for Pirates

BHQ take: Bormann had a short stay with the Pirates after getting an unexpected call-up on Sunday. Diaz will become Chris Stewart's backup until Cervelli gets healthy. Cervelli did not play Sunday or Monday because of a right foot injury but he does not expect to hit the DL. More on Diaz can be found on the Daily Call-Ups page. —Rick Green
