Red Sox sign Victorino

Having earlier inked Mike Napoli (1B/C, BOS) to a three-year contract, the Red Sox continued to replenish their roster during the Winter Meetings by signing Shane Victorino (OF, BOS) to a similar three-year pact. While trade rumors continue to swirl around Jacoby Ellsbury (OF, BOS), Victorino projects to be the Red Sox regular right fielder, lessening the need for the team to press into service the promising but oft-injured Ryan Kalish (OF, BOS).

Victorino dealt with a number of nagging injuries in 2012, which may have contributed to his dip in power production, particularly in the second half. The Red Sox's significant investment in Victorino indicates the team believes he is capable of...
