ROTISSERIE: Santana Plan Anchors for 2023—Part I

The Santana Plan is a roster construction strategy that advocates buying one elite starting pitcher that satisfies statistical screens for excellence over the past two seasons. Santana Plan anchors are not necessarily the best starting pitchers for 2023, but instead are the elite starters who are most likely to retain the skills they displayed in 2022.

Today’s article is the first of three articles about the Santana Plan. We’ll provide some background information and then discuss the Santana Plan anchors. Later this week, we’ll use this same type of analysis—looking for a skill history for the past two years, if possible—to formulate additional buy and sell recommendations for starting pitchers.
