In this series, we have considered the negative ramifications that accompany a lack of engagement by owners who lose focus as their team falls off the pace in a lost season. In part 1, we considered the issues of tanking and dump trades that result as losing teams in keeper/dynasty leagues look to rebuild. We addressed that issue in part 2 by proposing a concept that makes it more difficult for losing teams to blindly pack it on the current season. By providing incentives for competition all the way down through the standings, we not only discourage owners from checking out in a season gone wrong, but mindless dumping of productive talent in exchange for minor league prospects suddenly becomes a much more dubious endeavor.
