For six players from each MLB organization, the Arizona Fall League (AFL) is an extension of the minor league season at what is considered a Double-A plus level. Players combine to form six AFL teams that play approximately 30 games in Phoenix-area parks over six weeks beginning in early October and ending in late November. MLB clubs use the AFL for many of their better prospects who may have missed parts of the recently-ended minor league season due to injury or to simply push along youngsters to gauge whether they can continue to perform up to a higher-caliber level of play.
